hello there, i am in need of some help with booking my holiday to la thuile please.
we are a party of 4 (2 in london, 2 in edinburgh but edinburgers can travel down to london first if needs be) and are finding it hard to know just what we are getting before we book. until i came across your excellent site here i was particularly lost but after a favourable review of plenibel(?) i am now more sure of going there. however there are still a few things i am unsure of: what is the difference between plenibel hotel and apartments? is one better than the other? do these tend to be the cheapest places to stay in la thuile?
we are all fairly poor and so are trying to do this as cheap as poss which throws up a few more questions - is it normally best to get a self catering option or would it be cheaper to go half board? how much will the cheapest ski and boot hire be and do we need to book it before we go out? how much is a 5 or 6 day lift pass?
we are trying to coincide with our friends and their family going so our dates must be the 8th-15th march. if anyone has seen any particularly good offers for then, then please let me know.
even if no one can help, many thanks once again for your great website

Hi Phil, The Planibel is made up of two parts; the hotel & the apartments. The hotel is quite expensive but usually includes at least breakfast, half board, or full board. The hotel rooms are more comfortable than the apartments, but I don't think many have a kitchen. There is a communal ski locker, and it's near to the gondola (5 mins walk) and could be described as 'ski back to the hotel grounds'. The apartments are split into four main wings, all of which are very close to the lower slopes so it's virtually ski to the door. Location is at the bottom of the express chair lift to the upper slopes. The apartments are all done on a self catering basis, and there are two comfort levels. For a small premium you can get a superior room. You can keep your boots, skis, boards, and poles in the apartment and there is a convenient place to put them. The kitchen is very basic so don't expect a microwave, or a grill, or an oven. Take a kettle with you if you want some luxury! 6 day lift pass is €190 this year. For equipment hire I recommend www.onlyski.com (prices on their website) and they are located on the Planibel complex next to the Cage pub. Enjoy your holiday! Woody. ;D
